iTunes has this listed as Reggae, buuut I feel like I found this on YouTube learning more about dancehall. For all two of you who read my blog, yes, I am on a kick. It’s because I’m looking to diversify my ass-shakin’ section of my library and dancehall is squarely where it’s at. Like, if there was a club that was just dancehall and reggeaton I would be there every night.
Onwards, I don’t find Shenseea to be elite in the genre, but she is -consistent- …which is important sometimes. This is a bouncy little track that I enjoy.
I’ve got two new jams from Aurelio’s 2011 album Laru Beya. My goal is to have the whole thing, but for now we’ve got “Lubara Wanwa” featuring Youssou N’Dour and “Yurumei.”
“Lubara Wanwa” has a lot of reggae influences and in some ways reminds me a lot of Manu Chao’s calmer tracks.
“Yurumei” is such a joyful sounding song. It makes me want to dance and sing! The vocal layering gives it a lighthearted, communal vibe. It’s also fun to hear that style translated into the horns.
As a fun fact, in addition to being an awesome musician, Aurelio Martinez was the first black member of the National Congress of Honduras. : )
